Indulgence Cafe

The Indulgence Cafe in Chatswood is an excellent spot for breakfast and lunch. It is also a chocolaterie where they hand-dip the chocolates. There is a glass counter full of different kinds of chocolates. They look superb, but so far my experience of the chocolate is limited to hot chocolates. They come in dark, milk or white. I always choose the dark. It’s got froth on the top, it comes with marshmallows and most importantly it’s chocolatey.

The atmosphere of the cafe focuses on food, there is no piped music to distract you, and the decorations have a chocolate theme. There are photos of chocolate, chocolate cushions and an umbrella printed with truffles hanging from the ceiling. If that isn’t enough to get you in the mood there is a vat of chocolate stirring on the counter beside the chocolate truffles. That’s where the hand-dipping takes place if it’s quiet. The noise level is normally low, but the cafe does cater for children with low tables around the window for parents and small children.

I’ve had leisurely weekend breakfasts at Indulgence. My usual choice is the fry-up. It comes with eggs, bacon, sausage, mushroom, tomato, potato cake and toast. You can have your eggs cooked how you like. The poached eggs a good for moistening your toast with the runny yolks. The mushrooms deserve a special mention because they’re marinated and provide a good vinigarey contrast to the meats. The potato cake is a potato bake rather than a hash brown, with cream and pepper. The cafe caters for special diets with gluten free toast and vegetarians are not left out either. There is a vegetarian fry-up with eggs and roasted vegetables including eggplant, capsicum and zucchini as well as mushrooms, potato cake and toast. I’ll have to give it a go next time.

For those wanting a sweet breakfast you can have a waffle. My waffle taste tester reports that they are light and fluffy with just the right amount of fruit. They’re big, and the maple syrup jug is generous. They look magnificent.

I can recommend Indulgence for breakfast, and I hope to report on the sweet treats sometime soon.

  1. Just to add, I have now had their eggs benedict. Very nice, the ham was delightfully smoky-flavoured and the eggs had lovely soft centres. Could have used a little more hollondaise sauce though.
